LITURGICAL READINGS

ADORE: Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.—Romans 11.33-36

ADMIT:All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.—Isaiah 53.6

ASSURE: He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.—Colossians 1.13-14

ACTIVATE: For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.—2 Corinthians 5.14-15

MESSAGE NOTES:

TITLE: FOUNDATION OF FREEDOM

SCRIPTURE READING: GALATIANS 1.1-5

BIG IDEA: GOD’S FREEDOM IS RECEIVED, NOT ACHIEVED

1. DOCTRINAL FOUNDATION—GAL 1.1b, 3-4a

  • Freedom is anchored in doctrine, not experience or effort

  • We can’t relate to God by trying to “pay-off” a debt

2. CREDIBLE FOUNDATION—GAL 1.3-4a

  • True Doctrine comes from God—not men

  • Be mindful of who’s voice you trust

3. DIVINE FOUNDATION—GAL 1.1-5

  •  Our freedom is anchored in Divine Initiative

  •  Freedom comes when we let go of “self-reliance”
